Is obstetric cholestasis dangerous during pregnancy?
My cousin was just diagnosed with this in her last trimester and now im a little scared since i keep getting itchy hands at night. Planning to ask my doc at next visit but in the meantime how serious is it really? Anyone here went through it?
A friend had it and her doctor explained it needs to be taken seriously, they monitored her with regular blood tests and often plan delivery a bit earlier under guidance. The main early sign is severe itching at night. Its manageable but only with the doctor watching closely.
It sounds scary but with proper doctor care it is handled well, the key is not ignoring it. That non stop itching is the big warning. Go get checked and follow whatever monitoring they advise.
I dealt with thyroid so I know how much these conditions need follow up. Cholestasis is one where you really should not skip appointments or blood tests. Stay in close touch with your gynac, dont try to manage itching on your own at home.
Please dont take this one lightly. It is a liver condition in pregnancy and it does need proper medical monitoring, it can affect the baby. If you have intense itching, especially on palms and feet without a rash, tell your gynac right away. They keep a close eye on it.
