Trying to eat healthy this trimester and saw quinoa being recommended everywhere. We dont really cook it at home so im not sure. is it actually good for us or just a trend?
Yes, quinoa is amazing during pregnancy! 🌾 It has so much protein and fiber which helps with digestion. I used to make a yummy quinoa pulao with lots of veggies! 😋
My mother-in-law wanted me to stick to traditional red rice, but my doctor suggested adding quinoa for extra protein. I made a simple quinoa upma with some curry leaves and mustard seeds. It was gentle on my stomach and very filling.
Quinoa is healthy but quite expensive in local markets. I stuck to cheaper local grains like daliya and ragi which have similar nutrients. We have to plan so many hospital expenses and scans, so saving on fancy food really helps the budget.
It is definitely super healthy, but honestly, in my 3rd trimester, the effort to cook it feels like climbing Mt Everest. If you have the energy, go for it! Otherwise, just eat some basic khichdi and call it a day.
My doctor highly recommended quinoa because it's a complete protein and has a low glycemic index, which is great for preventing gestational diabetes. Just make sure to wash it thoroughly before cooking to remove the bitter coating.
