My MIL warned me to stay away from til, says it can cause problems early on, but i also hear its full of calcium and good in winters. Im a bit confused now, im in first trimester. Is sesame actually safe or should i avoid? pls clear my doubt.
Beta, in our tradition we usually keep til in moderation, especially early on, big quantities are best avoided. A normal amount in food later is fine and it has calcium and iron. But always in moderation, and check with your doctor if you have doubts.
In normal food amounts sesame is generally okay and actually nutritious, calcium and iron. The 'avoid til' idea is more traditional caution than hard science. Just dont eat it in huge quantities, and if your pregnancy is high risk, run it by your gynac first.
In our home elders are a bit careful with sesame (til) in early pregnancy, some old beliefs around it, though there's no solid proof. Later months people do eat til laddoos for calcium. If you're unsure especially in first trimester, just ask your gynac, that settles it.
A little in your sabzi or chutney is totally fine, I ate til laddoos in winter both pregnancies, no issue. Just dont go overboard eating handfuls of it. Moderation is the key with everything in pregnancy honestly.
