I sometimes crave a fizzy drink, like soda, especially with spicy food. Is it okay to have it sometimes during pregnancy, or should I completely avoid it? I'm worried about the sugar and chemicals.
My tracker app says occasional plain soda is fine, especially for easing nausea. However, sweet sodas and colas have too much sugar and caffeine, which you should track and limit. Try fresh lime soda with very little sugar instead.
I personally drank a lot of ginger ale and plain soda during my first trimester because my morning sickness was horrible. It really helped settle my stomach. But everyone's body reacts differently, so I just shared what worked for me.
Honestly, unless you are drinking liters of it daily, a glass of cold soda won't harm the baby. When I had twins keeping me awake, an occasional cold sweet beverage was my only sanity saver! Just keep it in moderation.
In this heat and 3rd-trimester exhaustion, a chilled fresh lime soda is the only thing that revives me! I just make sure it’s plain soda without caffeine. At this point, my baby is basically made of ice water and lime juice anyway.
I was so terrified of preservatives that I completely stopped drinking any carbonated drinks during my pregnancy. But my doctor later told me a few sips of plain club soda for acidity is perfectly fine. Just avoid dark colas because of the high caffeine, ok?
