I was taking spirulina before for energy and now im 8 weeks. Stopped it for now coz im not sure if it's safe ya not during pregnancy. Will confirm with my gynac but wanted to know if anyone continued it.
I actually bought a tub of organic spirulina powder when I was pregnant, but my gynac asked me to avoid it because supplements aren't tightly regulated. I just preferred eating fresh palak, broccoli, and normal dal to be on the safe side.
Dear, spirulina is a great superfood generally, but during pregnancy, it can sometimes be contaminated with heavy metals or bacteria if not sourced from very clean waters. I would suggest staying away from it for these few months or at least checking with your doctor before starting any such supplements.
I was tracking my nutrients on my pregnancy app and searched for spirulina there. The app says there are very few human studies about its safety in pregnancy, and contamination is a real risk. So I decided to stick to normal, natural foods instead of algae powders.
Honestly, skip it during pregnancy. There isn't enough medical research on its safety for pregnant women, and there's always a risk of contamination. Stick to normal green leafy veggies and your regular iron pills prescribed by the doctor, they are much safer.
Haan na, even I heard it's very healthy, but during pregnancy it is better not to take any chances. Some brands might have toxins or heavy metals. Gynac se pooch lo ek baar to be absolutely sure, ho na?
