We eat a lot of fish at home and surmai is my favourite, but ive been hearing mixed things about which fish are ok now. Im in 2nd trimester. Just want to know if its safe to continue or should i avoid.
Honestly smaller local fish are cheaper and considered safer in pregnancy too, so it worked out for us. Kept surmai for special days only. Just make sure its fresh and properly cooked.
Surmai (kingfish) actually is one of those bigger fish that can have more mercury yaar, so most people say eat it limited during pregnancy, not regularly. I switched to smaller fish like rohu and ate well cooked. Ask ur doc what amount is fine.
We eat a lot of fish at home ma, but my doctor told me to prefer smaller fish and keep big ones like surmai occasional because of mercury. And always fully cooked, never raw. Family loved fish but I just balanced it.
Ohh I had such cravings for fish curry! I just kept surmai for once in a while and ate smaller fish more often. Cooked thoroughly only. Doc said thats the safer way, so I didnt fully give up my fish love haha.
When I asked, my gynac said fish is great for the baby for the omega, but larger predatory fish like kingfish should be eaten in moderation due to mercury. She said cooked properly and not too often is the key. So it can be had, just limit it.
