I use a shampoo that contains zinc pyrithione for my dandruff. Now that I'm pregnant, I'm wondering if this ingredient is safe to use during pregnancy. Should I switch to a different shampoo?
I avoided chemical anti-dandruff shampoos and used curd or lemon juice on my scalp instead. If you have severe scalp issues, please consult your doctor before using medicated shampoos.
I always showed every single cosmetic ingredient to my doctor because of my thyroid follow-ups. It is always safest to show the bottle to your gynac once.
I felt so scared using my regular dandruff shampoo when I found out I was pregnant. My doctor assured me that a quick wash is fine, but asking them really gave me peace of mind.
Zinc pyrithione in wash-off shampoos is generally safe because very little is absorbed through the skin. Just avoid leave-on creams or lotions containing it unless prescribed.
Since I had previous complications, I didn't take any chances with chemicals. Please check with your dermatologist or gynac before using any products with zinc pyrithione.
