My hb came a bit low in reports and doc said slight anemia. Im in second tri. Just trying to understand why it happens during pregnancy, is it common? pls share.
Low iron or B12 levels are the most common causes of anemia because the baby takes all your iron reserves. Please do not start any self-medication or heavy iron supplements without checking with your gynac first. They will do a proper CBC test and guide you safely.
It is so scary when the doctor says your hemoglobin is low, I remember totally panicking and thinking something was wrong with my baby! But it is actually very common because our bodies are making extra blood. Please don't worry, just take your prescribed iron pills and eat well.
Anemia often happens because our blood volume expands during pregnancy, meaning we need much more iron. I made sure to walk daily and do light yoga, as allowed by my doctor, while eating iron-rich foods like spinach to keep my hemoglobin up. Make sure you get your blood tested regularly.
Basically, your baby is eating up all your iron stores, which causes anemia if we don't eat enough iron-rich foods. I took this as a great excuse to crave and eat lots of pomegranate, beetroot, and green veggies! Just make sure you take your iron supplements too.
I was recently diagnosed with mild anemia in my 6th month because my iron levels dropped. My doctor said it's super common because of the baby's growth. Did any of you also have to increase your iron dosage in the second trimester?
