I keep getting mild cramps on and off, kind of like period cramps, and it makes me nervous every time. im in first tri. just want to understand what normally causes them so i know when its ok and when to actually worry. will check with gynac at next visit.
Mostly it is the body stretching and sometimes plain old gas, which gets bad in pregnancy. Rest, water and changing position usually settle the mild ones. Severe cramping though, dont sit at home, get it checked.
My gynac explained most pregnancy cramps come from the uterus stretching, gas, or the ligaments adjusting as the belly grows. Usually mild and harmless. But she said strong cramps, or cramps with bleeding, always need a call to her.
For me a lot of the cramping turned out to be gas and digestion issues honestly. Small frequent meals and staying hydrated helped. But the sharp ones I always ran past my doctor just to be safe.
