My cousin got diagnosed with this last month and now im a bit worried for myself too. i eat fairly normal so cant understand why it happens to some. anyone know what brings it on?
Beta dont worry too much about the why. Its mostly the hormones of pregnancy, not anything u did wrong. Just take the test on time and eat sensible, most women manage it really well.
I had GD so I'll share what my doc told me. Its mainly the pregnancy hormones from the placenta that block insulin a bit, so sugar builds up. Its not because u ate too many sweets, lot of women blame themselves but its hormonal. They manage it with diet and sometimes meds, dont stress.
Causes are mostly hormonal as others said. Just adding practically, the GD screening test is cheap and worth it, dont skip it to save money. If caught early its managed with simple diet changes which saves u bigger bills later.
From what my gynac explained, the placenta makes hormones that make ur body resist insulin, and if the pancreas cant keep up the sugar rises. Family history, weight, age over 30 and PCOS can increase the chance also. Best to just get tested and follow doc's diet plan if needed.
Because I had PCOS my doc warned me I was higher risk for GD. So I cant say exactly the cause for everyone but yeah hormones and insulin resistance are the main thing. If u have PCOS or family history just mention it to ur doc so they watch it closely.
