What causes too much saliva in the mouth during pregnancy?
Since first trimester started my mouth keeps filling up with saliva, its so annoying and adds to the nausea. Never knew this was even a thing yaar. Is it normal and does it go away later?
It is just a temporary phase due to hormonal changes in the body, so stay positive. Keep yourself hydrated, eat mindfully, and remember this too shall pass.
This is called ptyalism and is quite common, though very uncomfortable. If it makes you feel extremely nauseous or dehydrated, please check with your doctor to stay safe.
I used to carry a spit cup everywhere during my first trimester because of this! Looking back, it seems like a distant memory now, it completely disappeared by the 4th month.
Honestly, it's just pregnancy hormones acting up. Try chewing on some elaichi or sugar-free gum, or keep a small piece of ginger in your mouth; it really helps to control the saliva.
