My feet and ankles have started swelling up so much in the evenings, almost dont fit in my chappals now. im 7 months. just wanna understand why this happens to body during pregnancy.
My doctor said hormones and the extra fluid your body holds in pregnancy cause the swelling, plus the growing uterus pressing on veins slows blood return in the legs. She told me to keep my feet up and watch for any sudden swelling.
Sitting at a desk all day made my feet puff up badly. I started getting up to walk every hour and kept water bottle handy, drinking more water actually helped the retention, sounds odd but it works.
Some swelling is normal but if it comes on suddenly in your face or hands, or with headache, please don't ignore it and call your gynac. That kind can be linked to BP issues.
It's mostly the extra fluids and hormones, totally normal in later months. I propped my legs up in the evening and cut down on too much salty food, that eased it for me.
My mother told me to rest with legs raised and not stand too long, that old advice really helped me. But anything sudden or painful, do check with your doctor na.
