My gynac started me on folic acid the day my test came positive and now im just curious what its actually doing inside. Everyone keeps saying its super important but nobody explained why. Can someone tell me in simple words?
Its one of the most important things in the first trimester. Both my pregnancies the doctor put me on it right away. Just take it daily as prescribed, dont self decide the dose.
It really helps the baby grow well in those first weeks. My amma kept reminding me to never miss the tablet. Your doctor will tell you the right one for you, just stay regular with it.
My gynac said folic acid mainly helps the baby's brain and spine develop properly in the early weeks. Thats why they want you to start it even before conceiving ideally. She was quite strict about not skipping it.
I read about this while planning and my doc told me to start folic acid a couple months before trying. Apparently the early protection is the whole point. Worth asking your gynac when to begin.
