What epilepsy medications are safe during pregnancy?
I have epilepsy since teenage and im on regular meds. Now that im planning a pregnancy im really tense about how the medicines affect the baby. I will obviously talk to my neuro and gynac, just wanted to hear from anyone who has been through this.
This is really not something to decide from forums, please. Epilepsy medicines vary a lot and some need adjusting before and during pregnancy under a neurologist plus gynac. I had a friend with epilepsy and her doctors planned everything carefully ahead of time, so do see them soon.
From what I know, some epilepsy meds are managed differently in pregnancy and they often review the dose. But this is strictly a specialist decision, not a general one. Please get your neurologist and gynac talking to each other, that's the safest route.
Honestly only your neurologist can answer this safely, the choice depends on your specific condition. The big thing is never stop or change your medication on your own, that can be dangerous. Ideally plan this with your doctor even before conceiving.
