What genetic diseases can be tested for during pregnancy?
First pregnancy and theres some history of issues in my husbands family. My gynac mentioned some tests but I didnt fully understand which all things they check. Can someone who has done these pls share their experience?
Having PCOS made me extra cautious about tests. Doctors usually screen for Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, and sometimes Thalassemia. Don't worry, these are standard tests done during the first trimester scans.
I just went through this! My doctor got the NIPT and NT scan done around the 12th week to check for Down syndrome and other genetic anomalies. It is a very simple process, mostly just a routine blood test.
They screen for things like Down syndrome and neural tube defects through simple blood tests and ultrasounds. Even though I was throwing up constantly, I made sure not to skip these test dates. Your doctor will explain everything.
Usually, doctors suggest blood tests and scans like the Dual Marker or NIPT to check for conditions like Down syndrome. For serious medical history, please talk to your gynac clearly, they will guide you best.
Standard screening tests like the double marker check for chromosomal issues like Down syndrome. Doing these tests on time gives you so much peace of mind. Discuss with your doctor so you can plan the timeline.
