What happens if i sleep straight during pregnancy?
Sometimes I accidentally wake up sleeping on my back, or find myself rolling onto my back during the night. What happens if I sleep straight (on my back) during pregnancy, especially in later trimesters? Should I be worried?
Please don't worry if you find yourself sleeping straight occasionally. It's a very common concern, but our bodies naturally shift when we feel uncomfortable. Just try to turn to your side whenever you wake up, and take it one night at a time.
I am planning my pregnancy now and was just reading up on this! Apparently, sleeping straight in the second and third trimesters can compress a major blood vessel, which reduces oxygen flow to the baby. It sounds a bit scary, but it seems like training ourselves to side-sleep early on is the best way to handle it!
Sleeping flat on your back in later months can restrict blood flow, which might cause dizziness and complicate things. We wanted to avoid any extra hospital visits or emergency scans that could ruin our budget, so I strictly trained myself to sleep on my side. Investing in just one good body pillow saved me from a lot of stress and medical bills!
In the early months, it is absolutely fine to sleep straight if you are comfortable. But as your belly grows, sleeping on your back can make you feel a bit breathless because of the weight. Try to gently slide a pillow under one side of your hip so you are slightly tilted, it really helped me sleep better.
Beta, sleeping straight on your back after the fourth month is not good because the baby's weight presses on your back and veins. It can cause backache and bad digestion. If you feel uneasy or have gas, try drinking a cup of warm fennel tea before bed and sleep on your left side with a soft pillow.
