Got my scan report today and theres this term BPD written with some measurement. Had no clue what it means so didnt want to leave without understanding. Can someone tell me what it actually refers to?
BPD is biparietal diameter, basically the measurement across the baby's head from one side to the other. The doctor measures it in the scan to estimate baby's growth and gestational age. My gynac used it along with other measurements to track everything was on track.
It's the width of the baby's head measured in the ultrasound. They use BPD with other numbers like femur length and tummy size to judge growth and weeks. Nothing to worry about, it's a routine scan measurement.
BPD stands for biparietal diameter, the diameter of the baby's head in a scan. It helps assess growth and confirm how far along you are. If you saw it on your report and have doubts, your doctor can explain your specific numbers best.
I saw BPD on my scan report and panicked thinking it was something wrong! It's just the head measurement, totally normal thing they note. Did anyone else get scared reading all those scan abbreviations the first time?
