Heard the word catheter while talking about delivery and got a little anxious. Dont really understand when or why it is used. Can someone explain, is it during labour?
Dont worry beta, its very routine. They use it so ur bladder stays empty during delivery or surgery and u can rest. Comes out soon after. Youll be fine.
I had a catheter during my C section, its a small tube to drain urine so u dont have to get up. They put it after spinal so u dont feel it, and removed it next day. Bit uncomfy after but totally normal.
From what the nurse explained, a catheter drains the bladder during surgery or labour when u cant move much. Sometimes also if there are BP or fluid concerns. Ask ur doctor specifically why if they mention it for u.
Even in my normal delivery they used one with the epidural since i couldnt walk to washroom. Its just for passing urine while u r resting. Nothing to be scared of really.
