Saw this term written on my next appointment slip and got curious. Nobody really explained it to me. what does it actually involve and why is it done? first time mom here so all of this is new.
I had it in my last weeks to check dilation. Bit uncomfortable for a few seconds but quickly done. They told me i was a couple cm dilated, felt exciting honestly.
My doctor said its a quick internal check to see if the cervix is softening, thinning or opening, mostly done close to the due date. It tells them how ready your body is for labour. She explained it before doing it which helped.
