My doc mentioned this term in my last visit and honestly i got a bit scared, didnt fully understand what all comes under it. Im 35 and this is my first. Can someone explain in simple words what makes a pregnancy high risk?
Mine was labelled high risk and honestly the extra scans and visits gave me peace of mind. It mostly means closer follow up. If your doctor has said this for you, just stick to all the checkups she advises and dont panic.
My doc explained it just means the pregnancy needs extra monitoring, due to things like age, BP, sugar, twins or past complications. It doesnt mean something will go wrong, just more careful watching. She said many high risk pregnancies end perfectly well with good care.
My IVF pregnancy was considered higher risk and the term scared me at first. But it really just meant my team kept a closer eye on me, which I was grateful for. You are in good hands, take it one appointment at a time.
