My report mentioned something about cervix length and i just nodded but didnt fully get what it means. This is my first pregnancy so a lot of these terms go over my head. Can someone explain in simple words?
Simply put, its the opening at the bottom of your uterus. It keeps the baby protected inside and only opens when its time for delivery. Nothing scary, its just how the body is designed beautifully for this.
My doctor explained it simply, the cervix is the lower narrow part of the uterus that opens into the vagina. During pregnancy it stays closed and firm to keep the baby safely in, and near delivery it softens and opens up. Thats basically how labour starts.
Its the neck of the womb basically, connects uterus to the birth canal. It plays a big role because it has to stay closed through pregnancy and then open during labour. Your gynac will explain more during checkups if youre curious.
Think of cervix as the gate at the bottom of the uterus. In pregnancy it stays shut to hold baby in, and at the end it dilates so baby can come out. Doctors check it in later months to see how things are progressing.
