Im in my 32nd week and lately my palms and feet itch like crazy, mostly at night. My SIL mentioned this cholestasis thing and now im a little scared. Can someone explain what it actually is? Planning to ask my gynac this week na.
My doctor explained it as intrahepatic cholestasis, the bile acids build up in blood. She said the itching without any rash is the big clue. They keep checking bile acid levels and sometimes deliver a bit early to be safe. Not super common but worth knowing about.
I actually had this in my third trimester. It's a liver thing where bile flow gets affected and the main sign is really bad itching, mostly on palms and feet, often at night. Pls dont ignore intense itching, get a liver function blood test done. My gynac monitored me closely and it was fine.
Beta in my time we used to think itching is just dry skin and put coconut oil. But this is something different, oil wont fix it. If the itching is strong specially in hands and feet please show your doctor, it needs a proper test.
Reading this got me a little worried honestly. I get mild itching sometimes on my tummy, is that the same? Or is cholestasis the very bad night time itching one? Asked just to understand, will mention it to my gynac anyway.
