Im 34 and this is my first, my doctor casually mentioned the word high risk and now its stuck in my head. I dont fully understand what all comes under it. Can someone explain what makes a pregnancy high risk?
Mine was considered high risk because it was an IVF pregnancy and I was a bit older. It just meant more visits, which actually made me feel safer. Please dont panic at the term, it means your team is keeping a close, caring eye on you.
Mine was labelled high risk due to my BP, so it just means you need closer monitoring, not that something will definitely go wrong. Things like older age, twins, diabetes, high BP or past complications can put you in that category. With extra care it usually turns out fine, mine did.
My gynac explained high risk covers cases like pre existing conditions, multiple babies, certain pregnancy complications or maternal age over 35. It mainly means more scans and check ups. Honestly the label sounds scary but it's really just about being extra watchful.
