Me and my husband are planning to start trying soon and someone mentioned we should do genetic testing first. Honestly i dont fully understand what it checks for. Has anyone here done it before conceiving, what does it actually involve?
My doctor explained its a blood test that checks if you and your partner carry genes for conditions like thalassemia. They suggested it because such things can pass to the baby. We did the carrier screening before planning and it gave us peace of mind.
During our IVF journey they did some genetic screening too and I understand it can feel overwhelming. It basically helps check risks beforehand so you can plan. Take it as information, not as something to fear yaar.
We are planning right now and our doctor mentioned this. From what I understood its mainly to see if both partners carry any inherited condition. Anyone here who did it before conceiving?
Just a heads up it can cost a fair bit depending on the panel. We chose a basic carrier test our doc recommended instead of the big expensive one. Ask your gynac which one actually makes sense for you.
