My reports keep saying gestational age this gestational sac that and i just nod at the doctor like i understand. Can someone explain in simple words what gestational actually means? Feeling a bit silly asking but i really dont get it.
If you heard it as gestational diabetes thats different, thats sugar that comes during pregnancy. But on its own gestational just refers to the pregnancy period. Ask your doc in what context you saw it.
My gynac explained gestational age is measured from the first day of your last period, not from conception, so it can feel like 2 weeks more than you expect. Thats why they ask your period date at every visit.
Gestational basically means related to the pregnancy itself. Like gestational age is how far along you are, counted from your last period. Your doctor uses it to track baby's growth.
I also got confused with this word in my first pregnancy. It simply means belonging to the pregnancy time. Your gynac will tell you your exact gestational weeks at the scan.
