Saw GPAL written on my file at the gynac and i had no idea what it means. Forgot to ask there only. Can someone explain in simple words na, what is this?
It is just a medical term our gynacs use to note down our obstetric history. G is for pregnancies, P is for births, A is for miscarriages or abortions, and L is for living kids. It helps the doctors understand your medical background quickly.
Haha, I almost needed a medical dictionary to decode my files in the beginning! GPAL is just their code for Gravida (pregnancies), Para (births), Abortions, and Living children. Now in my 3rd trimester, I'm just too tired to care about these terms, just want this baby out!
Haan na, starting me file pe GPAL dekh ke sab confused hote hain. It actually stands for Gravida, Para, Abortions, and Living children, which is just your pregnancy history. Your doc writes it to keep track, ho na.
Ye doctor log ki short form hoti hai hamari file me likhne ke liye. G matlab kitni baar pregnancy hui, P matlab delivery, A matlab koi abortion ya miscarriage, aur L matlab kitne bache hain abhi. Isse darna nahi, ye normal entry hoti hai doctor ki file me.
I felt so overwhelmed seeing all those medical terms on my card during my first checkup. GPAL is basically just a summary of your past pregnancies and living children. Knowing what it meant actually made me feel more connected to my doctor's process.
