Saw this term written in my scan report and had no idea what it means. didnt get a chance to ask the doc properly that day. Can someone explain in simple words what internal os is and why they check it?
When I saw internal os on my report I got anxious and googled too much, dont do that to yourself. It just means the inner cervix opening. My doctor said mine was closed and fine. Please just ask yours to explain your report calmly.
My doctor explained the internal os is the inner opening of the cervix, where it meets the uterus. In scans they check if it stays closed during pregnancy, which is a good sign. They look at it especially if there are concerns about the cervix.
Its basically the inner mouth of the cervix on the uterus side. It usually comes up in ultrasound reports. If you saw it on your report and are unsure, please ask your gynac to explain your specific finding, they will read it in context.
The cervix has two ends, the internal os is the one near the uterus and external os opens to the vagina. Sonologists note if internal os is closed, which is normal in pregnancy. If your report mentioned something specific, your doctor is the one to clarify.
