We've been trying naturally for over a year and the doc mentioned IUI as an option. I honestly dont fully understand what it involves and im a bit scared. if anyone has gone through it can you explain how it actually works?
IUI is intrauterine insemination, where the doctor places washed, healthy sperm directly into the uterus around your ovulation time. My doctor explained its less invasive than IVF and often tried first for certain fertility issues. They time it with your cycle, sometimes with mild medication.
We did IUI before moving to IVF. Its a simpler procedure, quick and not very painful, done in the clinic. It doesnt always work first try so dont lose heart if it takes a few cycles. Sending you good wishes.
We just started looking into this. From what the doctor told us its a gentle first step before bigger treatments. Nice to read others experiences here, makes it less scary.
Good thing about IUI is its much cheaper than IVF, so many start with it. Ask the clinic upfront about cost per cycle and how many they suggest, helps plan finances better.
Basically they prepare the sperm and put it inside the uterus to boost the chances of fertilisation. Its an outpatient thing, you go home same day. Your fertility doctor will tell you if its right for your case.
