Heard some elders use the word maya talking about pregnancy and i didnt really get what they meant. Is it some old term or related to a scan thing? just curious matlab, someone pls explain.
Oh, are you talking about the Maya app? It's a really great, user-friendly app for tracking your periods, ovulation, and pregnancy week-by-week. But if your doctor mentioned 'Maya', they probably meant the placenta, which is the organ that feeds the baby.
Haha, first I thought you meant some spiritual illusion, but then my friend told me it's just the Telugu word for placenta! I'm in my 3rd trimester now, and my 'maya' is thankfully in the right position, but my back is killing me anyway!
Actually, in many places, especially South India, elders call the placenta as 'Maya'. In Marathi we call it वार (war). But if you are talking about the period app Maya, that is also very popular to track pregnancy, haan na.
Yes, 'Maya' actually means the placenta. In my recent delivery, they checked the placenta position in every scan to make sure it wasn't low-lying. It's the most important organ that keeps your baby healthy inside, so don't worry, it's completely normal!
From what I know, 'Maya' is a very common regional term used in the South for the placenta. Clinically, the placenta connects you to the baby to give nutrients. If the doctor said it is low-lying, just take proper bed rest and avoid lifting heavy things.
