Im 37 weeks now and noticed some thick jelly like discharge today. Heard people mention mucus plug but i dont really know what it looks like or means. Does it mean labour is close? Pls explain.
My gynac explained the mucus plug seals the cervix the whole pregnancy to keep infection out. Losing it is a sign the cervix is softening for labor. She said it doesnt mean baby today, could be hours or even a week. So note it but no rush unless contractions start.
I read about this and got slightly grossed out na, but its just a gooey mucus plug doing its job all these months. Im 36 weeks and waiting for mine to make its dramatic exit lol.
Its basically a thick mucousy plug that protects the opening of the womb during pregnancy. When body gets ready for delivery it comes out. Sometimes in one piece, sometimes bit by bit. Normal thing in late pregnancy.
Dont worry about it beta, its a totally normal part of late pregnancy. Just one thing, if u see a lot of bright red blood with it, or water leaking, then ring your doctor. Plain mucus or slightly pink is okay.
I just went through this last month! Its like a thick jelly type discharge, mine was a bit pinkish. My doc had told me its the plug that seals the cervix and when it comes out it can mean labor is getting closer. But it can still take days, so dont panic.
