I came across this term in a pregnancy group and it sounded really scary. Im 24 weeks and now im a bit worried about it. Can someone explain in simple words what it means?
It's when the placenta separates from the wall of the uterus too early, before delivery, and it's a serious thing. I had a scare with bleeding and they monitored me closely. If you ever have sudden bleeding, severe belly pain or a hard tight tummy, dont wait, go to hospital right away.
My doctor explained it as the placenta peeling away from the uterus wall partly or fully before the baby is born. Warning signs she mentioned were vaginal bleeding, constant abdominal or back pain and reduced baby movement. It needs immediate medical care, so any of those symptoms means call the doctor or go in fast.
