We just found out we're expecting, only about 5 weeks. yesterday i ate some papaya at lunch before realising and now im panicking coz everyone always says avoid it. how bad is it really?
At home everyone warns against papaya, mostly the raw green one used in salads. Ripe one is debated. I avoided it early on just to be safe and listened to my doctor over old sayings. No harm in skipping it a few months na.
Actually its the kachcha papaya thats the issue yaar, the green one. Ripe wala thoda sa is mostly fine but honestly why take tension, just avoid it for now and have other fruits. Doc se confirm kar lena.
Beta our elders always said no papaya in pregnancy and there is some truth, the raw or semi ripe one has something that can cause contractions. Fully ripe papaya in small amount is considered okay by many, but early on I would just avoid it to be safe and ask your doctor.
After my earlier loss I was extra careful and avoided papaya completely in early months, just for my own peace. The unripe one is the real worry. If u r anxious, simply leave it out for now and confirm with your doctor.
My gynac told me the concern is mainly raw and unripe papaya, it has a latex (papain) that can trigger contractions. Fully ripe papaya is generally considered fine in moderation. To stay safe I just skipped it in my first trimester.
