Doc gave me a slip for some screening test in this trimester and i just nodded but didnt really get what its for. First pregnancy so everything is new to me. Can someone tell me what these screening tests check for?
These are the standard tests they do to keep an eye on baby development. I did all of them both times, blood tests and scans mostly. Just follow whatever your gynac schedules, don't skip them.
Screening tests basically check the chances of certain conditions in the baby, like the double marker and the NT scan in first trimester. They are not confirming anything, just telling risk levels. My gynac explained the whole schedule, best to let your doctor decide which ones you need.
I just did my double marker and quadruple test and honestly I was so nervous waiting for results. Did anyone else feel anxious before these? My doctor said they are routine and most reports come normal, that calmed me a bit.
My app actually had a nice timeline of all screenings, the NT scan around 11-13 weeks, double marker blood test, then anomaly scan around 20 weeks. Helped me not miss any. Still I confirmed each one with my gynac before booking.
One thing nobody tells you, these screening tests add up cost wise. I asked my hospital for a list upfront and planned month by month. Ask your doctor which are truly needed so you can budget for the scans and bloodwork.
