Saw this term in some group and people complaining about so much pain. Im in 7th month with bad pelvic pain so just curious if this is what i have. Can someone explain in simple words?
SPD causes a very sharp, shooting pain in the pelvic bone and can make simple things like walking or turning in bed highly painful. Please do not ignore it or try to push through the pain. Go see your doctor immediately as they can diagnose it properly and refer you to a specialist so it doesn't worsen.
Oh, that lovely pain that makes you walk like a penguin! SPD is basically your pelvic joints loosening up too early in preparation for birth. Honestly, keeping a pillow between your legs while sleeping was my only savior. Ask your doctor for advice, but take comfort in knowing it usually disappears right after delivery!
When I had severe pelvic pain, I asked my doctor and they explained it's SPD—where the pelvic joints move unevenly. The hospital's physiotherapist taught me exactly how to keep my knees together when getting out of cars to avoid straining it. Please ask your hospital care team clearly about safe stretches and support bands.
SPD stands for Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction, which is basically pelvic girdle pain. It happens because the pregnancy hormone relaxin loosens your pelvic ligaments too much, causing pain in the groin and hips. It's best to consult your gynac or a pelvic floor physiotherapist who can recommend safe exercises and pelvic support belts.
In our family, elders tell us to walk carefully and avoid taking big steps, which is very true for SPD. It is pelvic girdle pain caused by the joints widening for the baby. I always trusted my doctor's advice and used a maternity belt, which really supported my lower back and groin area.
Carrying twins made my pelvis feel like it was literally splitting in half, which is classic SPD! It's just your body releasing relaxin to widen your hips, but with double the weight, it hurts twice as much. Keep your legs symmetrical, sit down to wear your pants, and definitely laugh through the waddling!
