Just got my positive test and im completely new to all this. Everyone keeps saying 9 months but then i see weeks being counted everywhere. How long is it actually, full duration?
It is about 40 weeks, counted from the first day of your last period, so roughly 9 months. Babies often come anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks though, both mine were a little early. So the due date is an estimate, not an exact day.
My doctor explained it is 40 weeks from the last menstrual period, divided into three trimesters. Full term is considered 37 to 42 weeks. She kept saying the due date is just a guide, only about 1 in 20 babies arrive exactly on it.
