Im someone who was already on the heavier side before getting pregnant. Now im 6 months and curious whats the minimum weight one should ideally gain. Dont want to overdo it but also want baby healthy.
I am currently in my second trimester and have only gained about 2 kgs so far, which is making me super anxious! My doctor said it's fine for now, but I still worry. How much weight had you gained by your fifth month?
Honestly, don't obsess over the scale too much right now. I barely gained any weight in the first half because of constant throwing up, but then suddenly piled on 12 kgs in the third trimester! As long as your doctor says the baby's growth is on track, you are doing perfectly fine.
When I was staying at my parents' place, my mother would pamper me with nutritious home-cooked meals because my weight gain was on the lower side. The doctor told us that at least 5 to 11 kg is usually expected depending on your pre-pregnancy weight, but the main thing is that the baby gets proper nourishment. Speak to your doctor to see what is ideal for you.
Beti, every woman's body is different, but gaining too little weight is not good for the baby's growth. In our times, we were told to eat ghee, milk, and almonds to maintain a healthy weight. If you are not gaining enough, ask your doctor first and try simple homemade high-nutrient foods like ragi porridges.
Don't worry, you'll get plenty of chances to grow like a happy little pumpkin later! Some moms only gain 5-6 kgs if they started with a higher weight, and their babies turn out perfectly healthy. Just consult your gynac to make sure your baby is growing well, and stop fighting with the weighing scale!
