Got my first beta hcg report and the number is in there but i honestly dont know if its normal for how far along i am. Im around 5 weeks i think. Just wanted to understand what these levels usually mean.
During my ivf i became way too familiar with hcg numbers, ha. The big thing my doctor stressed was the trend, is it rising well, not the single number. Try not to compare your value to someone elses, every pregnancy is different.
My doc told me hcg isnt one fixed number, it rises fast in early pregnancy and roughly doubles every couple of days at the start. The exact range is wide and varies person to person. Thats why they often do two blood tests to see if its rising properly rather than reading one value.
I drove myself mad googling hcg charts and comparing my number to strangers online, please dont do what i did. The range is huge and normal. Just trust your doc when she says its rising fine.
Theres no single normal level, it depends totally on how many weeks you are. What labs and doctors look at is whether its doubling well in early weeks. So the rising pattern matters far more than the one figure on your report.
