My doctor wrote viable pregnancy on my scan report and i just nodded but honestly didnt fully understand what it means. Im 7 weeks. Does it mean baby is fine and growing properly? can someone explain in simple words pls.
Generally it means the pregnancy is progressing well, often confirmed by seeing the heartbeat on an early scan. If your doctor used this term, its best to ask her exactly what she meant for your case. Each context is slightly different.
My doctor explained viability has two meanings, one is the early viability scan around 6-8 weeks where they confirm the heartbeat and that the pregnancy is growing. The other is the stage from which a baby could survive outside the womb with care, around 24 weeks. She used the word at my first scan to mean the heartbeat was seen.
When my doctor said viability scan, she meant the early scan to check the heartbeat and confirm everything is on track. It was a reassuring moment both times. Ask your gynac to clarify if she used it differently.
