What is the right position to sleep during pregnancy?
I'm finding it so hard to get comfortable at night now that my belly is growing. What is the best and safest sleeping position during pregnancy? I want to make sure I'm not harming the baby.
Beta, sleeping on the left side is very good for the baby. Put a soft pillow between your knees and one under your tummy, you will get very comfortable sleep. Avoid sleeping flat on your back or tummy.
I know how stressful it is when you can't sleep properly because you are constantly worried about hurting the baby. Try sleeping on your left side as much as possible. If you find yourself sleeping on your back, just gently roll over to your side, it's completely okay!
Oh, sleeping gets so difficult in the third trimester! Sleeping on your left side is the best position, but don't feel guilty if you wake up on your back sometimes. Your body will naturally make you roll over if you get uncomfortable, so don't stress yourself.
Sleeping on your left side is highly recommended because it improves blood flow to the baby and your kidneys. Just make sure to eat a light, early dinner so you don't get severe acidity while lying down. Try using a pregnancy pillow for extra back support.
Left-side sleeping is the standard medical advice because it optimizes circulation. If you are working and need a good night's rest, invest in a proper C-shaped pregnancy pillow immediately. It saves you from constantly waking up to adjust normal pillows.
Sleeping on the left side is the 'ideal' way, but honestly, at 34 weeks, any position where I don't feel like a stranded turtle is a win! I have built a literal fort of 5 pillows around me just to get 2 hours of continuous sleep. Just do what works best for you!
