My gynac mentioned checking thyroid in my first visit and i just nodded but didnt really understand it properly. Why does it matter during pregnancy? Trying to learn before my next appointment.
With my PCOS I also had borderline thyroid, so they kept a close watch. Dont panic if its detected, its quite common and treatable. Just dont skip the regular blood tests.
I had thyroid in both my pregnancies. Basically your thyroid hormone levels can go off and they affect the baby, so the doctor monitors TSH regularly. I just took the prescribed tablet daily and did monthly tests, all went fine.
My gynac explained that hypothyroid is common in pregnancy and if untreated it can affect baby development. Thats why they test TSH early and adjust medication. Its very manageable with proper follow up.
