My doctor wrote down a torch test in my list and i didnt get a chance to ask what it is. First pregnancy so everything is new to me. Can someone explain what this test checks for?
It's just a panel of blood tests for certain infections that matter in pregnancy. I did it both times, totally normal part of the workup. Ur gynac will read the report and tell u if anything needs attention, dont try to interpret it urself.
Heads up it's a bit pricey since it's a panel of several tests together. Ask ur gynac if u really need the full panel or just specific ones, sometimes they pick. It's a one-time screen mostly, so plan for it in ur test budget.

TORCH is a blood test that screens for infections that can affect the baby, my doctor explained it stands for Toxoplasma, Rubella, CMV, Herpes and a few others (the 'O' is for some other infections). They check if u've been exposed, so they can monitor or take precautions. It's a fairly routine test, dont panic about it.
