i came across this term while reading online and got a little scared. dont really understand what it means or how serious it is. can someone explain in simple words what it actually is?
Beta this is something only a doctor should explain properly with your reports in hand. It relates to abnormal placental tissue growth. Dont scare yourself reading random things, take your scan and questions straight to your gynac.
From what my doctor explained, gestational trophoblastic disease is a group of conditions where the tissue that forms the placenta grows the wrong way. It usually shows up on ultrasound and with abnormal hcg levels. It's treatable but does need close follow up, so a specialist is the right person to guide.
In simple words it's an abnormal growth of placental tissue, and molar pregnancy is one form of it. It's diagnosed through scans and hcg tracking and is managed medically. If this came up in your report, your obgyn is the best one to walk you through next steps.
I dont know the full medical side honestly, but a cousin of mine had a molar pregnancy which falls under this. Her doctors monitored her closely and she was fine after. I'd really say sit with your gynac for the proper explanation.
It's a condition where the cells that would normally form the placenta grow abnormally, molar pregnancy is the common type people hear about. It's not a normal pregnancy and needs proper medical care. Please dont self diagnose from internet, your gynac and a scan will tell you clearly.
