What medications can cause a false positive pregnancy test?
I got a faint positive but im on some medication right now and now im doubting if its real. Dont want to get my hopes up for nothing. Does anyone know which medicines can mess up the test result?
From what my doctor explained, the main one is fertility injections that contain hCG, the same hormone the test detects, so they can show false positive. Most regular medicines dont cause it. She said a blood test at the clinic clears any confusion.
If youre doing fertility treatment, the trigger shots have hCG so testing too soon after gives a false positive, i learnt this the hard way and it was an emotional rollercoaster. Wait the days your doctor tells you and then test. Sending you strength.
Rather than guessing about medicines, if youre on any treatment just ask the doctor who prescribed it, they will know which can interfere. And confirm with a blood test before believing the kit result either way.
Honestly genuine false positives are rare with normal meds. More often its evaporation lines, expired kits or reading it too late. If unsure, just get a blood beta hCG done, thats the clear answer.
