Just found out im pregnant n feeling totally lost about food. every website says something different and my mom n MIL have their own rules. would love a simple do-and-dont from women whove actually been through it.
My family fed me lots of curd rice, ghee, ragi and seasonal fruits, all warm and home cooked. They avoided raw papaya and very heavy cold foods in early months. Whatever big doubts I had I just asked my gynac, na, that kept me relaxed.
You honestly dont need expensive supplements and imported fruits. Simple home food, dal chawal sabzi, eggs, banana, peanuts and milk does the job cheaply. Spend on your iron and calcium tablets that doctor prescribes, that matters more.
I had to watch my food closely because of GD, so I am a bit careful giving diet advice. In general fill up on protein and fibre and go easy on sweets and white rice in big amounts. But please get your sugar checked and let the gynac tailor it for you.
My doctor gave me a simple rule, eat colourful and varied, prioritise iron, calcium, protein and folate. She said avoid raw or undercooked meat, eggs, fish high in mercury and limit coffee. Everything else in moderation was allowed, which made it less scary.
Eat plenty of dal, eggs, milk, fruits, leafy veggies and dry fruits, that covers most needs. Avoid raw papaya, raw sprouts, unpasteurised stuff and too much caffeine. Wash and cook everything well and you are mostly sorted.
