Just found out im pregnant, around 5 weeks. So confused about food, my MIL says one thing internet says another. What did you all actually eat in the first few weeks?
Honestly in my first trimester I could barely keep food down, so I ate whatever stayed in, mostly toast, khichdi and bananas. Dont feel guilty if you cant eat balanced early on. Small bites through the day helped more than big meals.
My doctor stressed folic acid, iron and protein from the beginning, and a colourful plate of veggies and fruits. She told me to avoid raw papaya and unpasteurised stuff. Whatever supplements, she said take only what she prescribed.
At home they fed me lots of rice, sambar, curd and seasonal fruits, very comforting. My mother added a little ghee and greens. I still checked the big things with my gynac so I stayed safe.
You dont need fancy expensive foods yaar. Seasonal fruits, dal, eggs, milk, peanuts, all cheap and good. I spent more on my iron and folic tablets than any special diet honestly.
Keep it simple in the start, dal, roti, sabzi, fruits, curd, plenty of water. Your folic acid tablet daily is the main thing, dont skip it. Eat small frequent meals if nausea hits, that worked for both my pregnancies.
I had to watch sugar carefully so I leaned on whole grains, veggies and protein, and kept fruits in limit. Everyone is different though, so let your doctor tailor it once your reports come. Just dont overload on sweets early as a habit.
