What to use during pregnancy to prevent stretch marks?
I'm really worried about getting stretch marks during my pregnancy. My skin is already stretching, and I want to be proactive. What are some effective things I can use to prevent or minimize them?
To be honest, stretch marks are mostly genetic and you can't completely prevent them, but keeping the skin hydrated helps with the itching. I just kept a bottle of organic coconut oil or a basic moisturizing lotion at my desk and applied it twice a day. It takes 2 minutes and keeps the dry skin comfortable.
Don't waste thousands on expensive 'anti-stretch mark' creams, they are mostly marketing gimmicks. Just use plain cold-pressed coconut oil or bio-oil right from the first trimester. Most importantly, drink plenty of water to keep your skin elastic from within.
Honestly, embrace the genes because if you are prone to stretch marks, they will appear anyway. But to manage the intense itchiness as your belly expands, apply a good quality cocoa butter or shea-based body butter. I used it every night and it kept my skin super hydrated.
You can gently apply warm olive oil or virgin coconut oil on your belly after a bath. It keeps the skin soft and reduces dryness. Don't worry too much about the marks, they are beautiful signs of your baby's growth.
My skin became very dry and sensitive during pregnancy. I avoided creams with too many strong chemicals or artificial fragrances to be safe. Plain almond oil or aloe vera gel worked nicely for me, but always patch test first since pregnancy skin can react easily.
