Honestly, as a working mom, I had zero time for complicated skincare routines. I just kept a bottle of simple virgin coconut oil near my bed and applied it right after my morning shower and before sleeping. It is cheap, quick, and actually kept my belly very hydrated and itch-free.
First of all, please don't stress about stretch marks because they are just beautiful proof of the life you are growing inside you! But to keep the itching down, I used Bio-Oil religiously and it really helped fade them. Just love your changing body, you are doing amazing mama!
My thyroid issues made my skin extremely dry and itchy during pregnancy, which made me worry about deep stretch marks. My doctor advised me to apply a mix of heavy body butter and coconut oil immediately after bathing to lock in the moisture. Keep checking with your doctor during your regular visits if the itching becomes too severe.
Before buying any expensive anti-stretch mark creams, please run the ingredient list by your gynac. Some creams contain chemical ingredients that are not recommended during pregnancy. Simple moisturizers or natural oils are usually the safest choice to prevent dry skin.
During my consultation at the hospital, the dermatologist there recommended using a fragrance-free, clinically tested stretch mark cream twice a day. They explained that keeping the skin elasticity high from the first trimester itself is key. Just ask your hospital care team for a safe recommendation that suits your skin type.
I had such terrible morning sickness that the smell of cocoa butter creams made me throw up instantly. If you are sensitive to smells, please stick to pure, unscented almond oil or simple olive oil. It is very gentle on the skin and won't trigger your nausea at all.
Because of my PCOS history, my skin was already prone to hormonal changes and dryness. I realized that keeping yourself hydrated by drinking lots of water from the inside is just as important as applying oils on the outside. Don't worry too much, just use a basic moisturizer to prevent itching.
