What's a glucose test for pregnancy?

My doc asked me to do this glucose test next visit and gave me some drink instructions. Honestly i dont fully understand what its for and im thoda nervous. Can someone explain how it goes? did u all do it?

It's a mandatory test for gestational diabetes around 24-28 weeks. Take a book or your laptop with you because you have to wait at the lab for a couple of hours for multiple blood draws.
