Got my positive test last week but no scan yet. Honestly im a bit scared because my cousin had ectopic and it was caught late. At what point can the gynac usually find out if its ectopic? planning to ask at my appointment but wanted to know your experiences too.
An ectopic is usually picked up by early scan and beta hCG levels, often around 5 to 7 weeks, especially if there is pain or bleeding. Please dont wait it out if you have sharp one sided pain, dizziness or bleeding, go in immediately. Early detection really matters here, I cant stress that enough.
My doctor explained that if the hCG is rising but nothing shows in the uterus on the early scan, they suspect ectopic and watch closely. It is generally caught in the first several weeks. So early scans and follow up bloods are how they detect it, please dont skip them.
This is one where I would never delay. If you have severe pain on one side, shoulder tip pain or feel faint, get to a doctor or emergency right away. Early scans with your gynac are the safest way to rule it out.
