A home kit gives a fair idea after your missed period, use morning urine. For solid confirmation a blood beta hCG test is best, then the doctor confirms with a scan a bit later. That's the order I followed both times.
My app reminded me to test on the day my period was due and it showed positive. I then did a blood test for confirmation. Testing too early just stresses you out with faint lines honestly.
